Theoretically, since electric cars consist of far fewer parts than ICE vehicles they should be cheaper to build, especially if the one component that's still a cost problem is not included. Turns out Nissan's car is actually rather more expensive. On the other hand: they are the pioneers so I guess they do deserve to be compensated for the extra cost and risk involved in being the first. It's interesting you still count on BYD/China to take the lead in the EV revolution. Reports about china's EV policy indicate that it has in fact sidetracked plug-in technology: http://autonews.gasgoo.com/auto-news/1011097/China-to-restrict-lithium-battery-vehicles-to-certain-city-roads.html Maybe they were offered better oil deals in return for delaying a China driven EV revolution or something, but what ever it is I don't expect to hear much of BYD come 2012.
