If you've been following the BMW MINI E program unveiled officially on November 19th, 2008 at the Los Angeles Auto Show you'll know the process for being selected as a potential MINI E driver is a multistep one. The window to apply for a lease of a MINI E was from November 19th to December 24th, mic ampicillin, Ampicillin india, 2008, via an hour long online questionnaire, ampicillin trade name. Ampicillin reconstitution, In January 2009, I was excited to learn I was selected to be one of the potential 250 lessees of the MINI E being deployed in Southern California this year, ampicillin antibiotic resistance. Synthesis of ampicillin, Achieving selection status was just one of the first steps to MINI E driving sweetness. In the past couple of months I've been passing other qualifications, ampicillin degradation. One of these items on the MINI E deployment checklist regards the residence where one is to park and charge the MINI E, lb ampicillin. Ampicillin administration, MINI wants to insure their MINI Es will be parked in an enclosed garage and that the residence's electrical system is up to the task of charging the car.

[caption id="attachment_1914" align="alignleft" width="97" caption="Clipper Creek EV Charge Station."][/caption]

Last week I was notified by Clean Fuel Connection (the company contracted by MINI to deploy the MINI E specific Clipper Creek charge stations) that they would be conducting an initial site inspection of my garage and electrical service to insure I could support a MINI E, ampicillin dilution. Bla ampicillin, On Wednesday, March 11th, ampicillin msds, Molecular weight of ampicillin, 2009, at 1:30pm I met with a very friendly Paul Jette of Sunpower Electrical, pharmacokinetics of ampicillin, Ampicillin spectrum, the electrical contractor assigned to do the actual charge station install. He inspected and took some photos of my 200Amp main electrical utility panel, ampicillin contraindications, Binotal ampicillin, and the garage space where the Clipper Creek MINI E charge station will be installed. Lb ampicillin, A couple of years ago I had upgraded my electrical distribution system when I self-installed a 4kW Photovoltaic system with the knowledge that plug-in EVs would soon be in my driving future. My electrical cleanup resulted in a very neat and sparsely populated main panel, ampicillin uses, Ampicillin brand name, as I offloaded all individual circuits to a couple of subpanels. A majority of residences' main electrical utility panel is their only panel, ampicillin satellite colonies, Ampicillin synthesis, and many times it is completely stuffed with breakers and wiring, with no room for additional expansion, ampicillin production. Ampicillin tr 500 mg, This is a result many times of the initial builder trying to save a few $$ and installing a less expensive panel. Generally, ampicillin satellite colonies, Ampicillin sensitivity, the cost of the electrical panel is "in the noise" (negligible), where the the majority of the cost of any electrical work is in the labor, stability of ampicillin.

[caption id="attachment_1919" align="alignright" width="168" caption="Milbank kWhr meter and 60amp feeder Murray circuit breaker."][/caption]

Paul and I discussed the Clipper Creek charge station during his visit, lb ampicillin. It is to be protected by a 60amp feed breaker installed at the main panel. Paul confirmed the location I had already selected for mounting of the charge station to be ideal. I learned I was Paul's 3rd MINI E initial site visit that day. These were his very first visits in the MINI E deployment program.

While MINI is picking up the tab for any and all electrical work required to install the Clipper Creek Lb ampicillin, charge station, being an engineer I have the desire to install a kilowatt-hour meter ahead of the charge station to log EV charging kW/hrs. This self-imposed requirement means the charge station install by MINI at my house will be one of their simplest, as they just need to connect the charge station a few feet directly to the pre-installed and wired Milbank kilowatt-hour meter box I'll already have in place. I'm looking forward to a callback from Clean Fuel Connection once they are ready to send out the Clipper Creek charge station for installation.

[caption id="attachment_1929" align="alignleft" width="264" caption="Stefano Paris sports an EV grin for the MINI E at the November 19th, 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show."][/caption]

On a related MINI E note, if you haven't already seen Jay Leno's entertaining and very enthusiastic review of the MINI E that debuted earlier this week, definitely check out all the MINI E fun by watching his video below. The MINI E is powered by a beautiful, powerful, and efficient electric drive system manufactured by AC Propulsion of San Dimas, CA. AC Propulsion is the gold standard of electric drive in the EV industry. ACP has been in business for two decades and has been the force in leap frogging electric drive system technology into the modern EVs we know and love, like the pioneering GM EV1, AC Propulsion tzero, AC Propulsion eBox, the new 2009 MINI Es, and the gorgeous Tesla Roadster (a great evolution of licensed AC Propulsion electric drive technology).

This week we welcome Andrew Grin, a 16 year old sophomore from Kansas City who spent the day with us filming during the LA Auto Show. Andrew owns a converted pure EV Hyundai.

My first sighting of smog-filled Los Angeles brought a sad thought to my mind. A few weeks back, I read a study which found that dirty air in Southern California’s coastal basin and the San Joaquin Valley kills more people than car accidents. But I came to LA to glimpse the future, not dwell on the past.

I came to Los Angeles for the L.A. Auto show and to tag along with the "Revenge of the Electric Car" crew after winning an auction at the first Plug in America Fundraiser. We arrived late Thursday night November 20th ( my 16th Birthday ! ). My father and I picked up our rented Prius and drove off to our hotel.

On Friday we headed to Chris Paine’s home in Culver City. The crew shot some interviews and we did a tour of the green renovation of Chris's beautiful house. After a quick lunch break we moved on to shoot some video and pictures of Chris’s Tesla from the trunk of his RAV4-EV. I'm guessing this was one of the first all-electric driving photo shoots from the camera car to the Tesla. As the sun began to set, we headed to the 'Revenge' office to do some editing. It was very exciting to see how a documentary is made and I'm glad we got the chance to tag along.

Next day, the first order of business/pleasure was heading to the Tesla Store in West LA to test-drive the Tesla Roadster. The last time we visited Los Angeles we had a chance to test the Roadster (although my age restricted me to the passenger seat) with the 1.0 drivetrain. This time, Tesla promised us the updated 1.5 drivetrain and Tesla service manager Bob Sexton delivered.

[caption id="attachment_973" align="alignleft" width="154" caption="Lunch with Dr. Buzz Aldrin"][/caption]

The car was even more unbelievable than before. The performance was unlike anything I'd ever felt and it was hard to return to the Prius rental car.

[caption id="attachment_776" align="alignright" width="256" caption="Left to Right: Bryan Theis, Milton and Andrew Grin, Chris Paine, and P.G. Morgan."][/caption]

After our Tesla morning, we got back in our Prius and headed over to the L.A. Auto Show. Despite its formidable reputation, I was disappointed by the Auto Show. It felt like a dead event. It did not have an exciting feel nor were there especially large crowds - especially at the American automaker booths. I did however find it interesting to find out what the automakers had to promise on the EV front from BMW’s MINI E to Mitsubishi’s iMiEV.

Our trip was almost over. Before heading to the airport we saw the crew and met Dr. Buzz Aldrin for lunch. It was an amazing experience and I wholeheartedly thank Chris, Peter and the rest of the crew for everything.

The car was even more unbelievable than before. The performance was unlike anything I'd ever felt and it was hard to return to the Prius rental car.

The car was even more unbelievable than before. The performance was unlike anything I'd ever felt and it was hard to return to the Prius rental car.

The automotive and green electric vehicle blogosphere has been abuzz with talk of the BMW MINI E ever since July 9th, 2008, when AutoblogGreen published the rumor that 500 of the intriguing new electric cars would be released later this year in California. Chris Paine's docudrama "Who Killed the Electric Car" has raised awareness that plug-in electric vehicles are possible, and the demand for plug-in electric vehicles has never been higher. During the past couple of years the American driving public has witnessed how dependent they are of gasoline, and vulnerable to rapidly increasing energy prices. The biggest obstacle for those who would prefer an alternative has been lack of purchasable plug-in electric vehicles since 2003 when auto manufacturers ceased production of plug-in EVs like the GM EV1, Honda EV Plus, and Toyota RAV4-EV.

[caption id="attachment_838" align="alignright" width="240" caption="Amazing AC Propulsion eBoxes at AltCarExpo Saturday, September 27th, 2008."][/caption]

While the past couple of years have been full of news about future plug-in electric vehicles arriving in 2010, BMW plans to leap frog ahead of all automakers on the electrification front by releasing 500 all electric plug-in MINIs at the end of 2008. From the news that has been trickling in along with a BMW October 18th, 2008 press release, these MINI Es will be worthy electric vehicles. I've been eagerly reading the flurry of blog entries and ongoing speculation on the MINI E. Per BMW's press release the MINI E will be motivated by a 150kW electric drive system with a range of 150 miles per charge and a top speed of 95 mph. The battery pack is comprised of 5,088 lithium-ion cells for a cummulative 35kWhrs of energy storage. These specifications sound strikingly similar to the electric drive and energy storage system found in the very impressive AC Propulsion eBox electric vehicles which also sport a 5,088 lithium-ion cell battery with 35kWhrs of capacity. Both BMW's press release and Gizmag allude to an accelerator pedal based regeneration braking system. Other than Vectrix electric motorcycles which have a DAaRT (Deceleration, Acceleration and Regenerative Throttle) system, the only vehicles I know that have phenomenal accelerator based regen are those equipped with AC Propulsion's fabulous AC150gen2 electric drive system.

[caption id="attachment_840" align="alignright" width="240" caption="AC Propulsion's 0-60mph in 3.6 second li-ion powered tzero."][/caption]

Could it be that BMW has seen the brilliance in AC Propulsion's decades of electric drive system engineering and refinement and teamed with them in order to produce these 500 fantastic electric MINIs? This would be wonderful news as AC Propulsion is the gold standard when it comes to electric drive technology. How impressive is AC Propulsion electric drive genius? A perfect example is the licensing of AC Propulsion's core electric drive technology to Tesla Motors for use in their beautiful Tesla Roadster. The Tesla Roadster represents the evolution of AC Propulsion's 12 year old tzero which in 2002 pioneered the use of lithium-ion batteries (6,800 cells) demonstrating 0-60mph acceleration times in the 3.6 second range.

If in fact AC Propulsion is involved with the MINI E project, this would confirm the electric MINIs will be wonderful high performance and modern plug-in electric vehicles. AC Propulsion after all has been involved in the development of the modern electric vehicle from the late 1980s having engineered the Power Electronics Unit for the original GM EV1 Impact prototype. If my speculation holds true congratulations are due both to BMW and AC Propulsion. We'll know soon enough when we get the opportunity to see the debut of the all electric plug-in MINI E in November 2008 at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

A NEW EXPERIENCE - DRIVING PLEASURE WITHOUT EMISSIONS: THE MINI E 10/18/2008

Woodcliff Lake, NJ - October 18, 2008... The BMW Group will be the world's first manufacturer of premium automobiles to deploy a fleet of some 500 all-electric vehicles for private use in daily traffic. The MINI E will be powered by a 150 kW (204 hp) electric motor fed by a high-performance rechargeable lithium-ion battery, transferring its power to the front wheels via a single-stage helical gearbox nearly without a sound and entirely free of emissions. Specially engineered for automobile use, the battery technology will have a range of more than 240 kilometers, or 150 miles. The MINI E will initially be made available to select private and corporate customers as part of a pilot project in the US states of California, New York and New Jersey. The possibility of offering the MINI E in Europe as well is currently being considered. The MINI E will give its world premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 19 and 20, 2008.

The MINI E's electric drive train produces a peak torque of 220 Newton meters, delivering seamless acceleration to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.5 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 152 km/h (95 mph). Featuring a suspension system tuned to match its weight distribution, the MINI E sports the brand's hallmark agility and outstanding handling.

By introducing the MINI E, the BMW Group is underscoring the resolve with which it works towards reducing energy consumption and emissions in road traffic. The BMW Group is drawing on its unique technological expertise in the field of drive systems to develop a vehicle concept enabling zero emissions without renouncing the joy of driving. Putting some 500 cars on the road under real daily traffic conditions will make it possible to gain widely applicable hands-on experience. Evaluating these findings will generate valuable know-how, which will be factored into the engineering of mass-produced vehicles.

The BMW Group aims to start series production of all-electric vehicles over the medium term as part of its Number ONE strategy. The development of innovative concepts for mobility in big-city conurbations within the scope of "project i" has a similar thrust, as its objective also includes making use of an all-electric power train.

The energy storage unit: cutting-edge lithium-ion technology engineered specifically for use in the MINI.

Based on the current MINI, the car will initially be available as a two-seater. The space taken up by back-seat passengers in the series model has been reserved for the lithium-ion battery. When in use in the zero-emissions MINI, the battery unit combines high output with ample storage capacity and a small footprint with power ratios that are unrivalled in this field of application so far. The lithium-ion storage unit will have a maximum capacity of 35 kilowatt hours (kWh) and transmit energy to the electric motor as direct current at a nominal 380 volts. The rechargeable battery is made up of 5,088 cells grouped into 48 modules. These modules are packaged into three battery elements that are compactly arranged inside the MINI E.

The energy storage unit's basic components are based on the technological principle that has proven itself in practice in power supplies for mobile phones and portable computers. The MINI E's lithium-ion battery can be plugged into all standard power outlets. Its charge time is strongly dependent on the voltage and amperage of the electricity flowing through the grid. In the USA, users can recharge a battery that has been completely drained within a very short period of time using a wallbox that will ship with every MINI E. The wallbox will be installed in the customer's garage, enable higher amperage, and thus provide for extremely short charging times. Wallboxes fully recharge batteries after a mere two-and-a-half hours.

Driven by electricity: reliably, affordably and free of emissions.

A full recharge draws a maximum of 28 kilowatt hours of electricity from the grid. Based on the car's range, a kilowatt hour translates into 5.4 miles. Besides the benefit of zero-emissions driving, the MINI E thus offers significant economic advantages over a vehicle powered by a conventional internal combustion engine as well.

The heavy-duty battery delivers its power to an electric motor, which transforms it into thrilling agility. Mounted transversely under the MINI E's bonnet, the drive train unleashes its full thrust from a dead standstill. This provides for the car's fascinating launch capability. The MINI E's intense driving experience is augmented by its dynamic deceleration potential, which is also directly coupled to the accelerator pedal. As soon as the driver releases the gas pedal, the electric motor acts as a generator. This results in braking force, and the power recovered from the kinetic energy is fed back to the battery. This interaction ensures extremely comfortable drives ?Äì especially at medium speed with constant, but marginal, variation. In city traffic, some 75 percent of all deceleration can be done without the brakes. Making substantial use of this energy recuperation feature extends the car's range by up to 20 percent.

Signature MINI agility in a new guise.

Weighing in at 1,465 kilograms (3.230 lbs), the MINI E has an even weight distribution. Minor modifications made to the suspension ensure safe handling at all times. The Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system has been adapted to this model's specific wheel loads.

The MINI E's brake system comes with a newly developed electric underpressure pump. Its Electrical Power Assisted Steering (EPS) is the same as the one used in mass-produced MINIs. Both brake and steering assistance react to driving conditions and are thus extremely efficient. Even the air conditioning's electrical compressor only operates if desired or necessary.

Design: unmistakably MINI, undoubtedly new.

At first glance, the MINI E is obviously an iteration of the brand. But its design, which is the blueprint for the zero-emissions two-seater, has been complemented by a number of visual cues that point to its revolutionary drive concept. All of the units produced for the pilot project will have the same paintwork and bear a serial number on their front fenders.

The MINI E's coachwork sports an exclusive combination of metallic Dark Silver on all panels but the roof, which is clad in Pure Silver. What distinguishes the zero-emissions MINI is a specially designed logo in Interchange Yellow, depicting a stylized power plug in the shape of an "E" set against the silver backdrop. It has been applied to the roof, in smaller dimensions to the front and back, to the charger port lid, the dashboard trim, and ?Äì combined with the MINI logo ?Äì to the door jamb, in slightly modified form. The color of the roof edges, mirror housings, interior style cues and seat seams will match the logo's yellow tone as well.

Moreover, the central gauge and the battery level indicator behind the wheel of the MINI E, which replaces the MINI's rev counter, feature yellow lettering against a dark grey background. The battery level is displayed in percentage figures. The central gauge includes an LED display indicating power consumption in red and power recuperation in green.

MINI E customers will be part of a pioneering mission.

A 500-unit, limited-production MINI E series will be manufactured through the end of 2008. The project will thus attain an order of magnitude that clearly exceeds the size of currently comparable test series. Putting the MINI E on the road on a daily basis will be a pioneering feat to which both the drivers and engineers of the first zero-emissions MINI will contribute as a team.

MINI E customers will join forces with BMW Group experts to assist in the project's scientific evaluation. MINI E engineers accord high importance to staying in touch with the drivers on a regular basis, as this will help them analyze driver behavior besides vehicle characteristics in order to gain the most accurate and realistic picture of the demands placed on a vehicle with a purely electrical drive in the select usage areas.

Special charging station and full service for every MINI E.

The cars will change hands based on a one-year lease with an extension option. Monthly lease installments will cover any required technical service including all necessary maintenance and the replacement of wearing parts. At the end of the lease, all of the automobiles belonging to the project will be returned to the BMW Group's engineering fleet where they will be subjected to comparative tests.

The MINI E's lithium-ion battery can be charged using a wallbox provided to MINI customers. Only lockable garages or similar buildings will qualify as homebases and power stations for the MINI E.

Maintenance by qualified specialists.

The electric drive's high-voltage technology requires that maintenance work be done by qualified personnel using special tools that are not included in MINI service partners' standard toolboxes. In light of this, a service base will be set up on both coasts, staffed by service engineers that are specially trained to perform maintenance and repair work on the MINI E's electrical components. In the event of drive malfunction, these experts will provide professional support at the customer's local MINI dealer or the service base's specially equipped workshop. Technical inspections will take place after 3,000 miles (just under 5,000 kilometers) and at least after six months.

Production in Oxford and Munich.

The MINI E has already gone through the major phases of product development for mass-produced vehicles and passed numerous crash tests on the way. Aspects investigated besides passenger protection were the impact of collision forces on the lithium-ion battery and finding a non-hazardous location for it in the car. The MINI E's energy storage unit emerged completely unscathed from all of the crash tests mandated by US standards, which are especially high.

Production of the approximately 500 cars will take place at the company's Oxford and Munich sites and is scheduled for completion before the end of 2008. MINI's UK plant will be responsible for manufacturing the entire vehicle with the exception of the drive components and the lithium-ion battery, with the brand's series models rolling off its assembly lines concurrently. The units will then be transferred to a specially equipped manufacturing complex situated on BMW plant premises where the electric motor, battery units, performance electronics and transmission will be integrated.
